Decoding Strategies

Decoding strategies were sent home a couple of weeks ago. I also wanted you to have a 2nd place to look just in case you needed them again!

Communities

November and Decemeber
During these 2 months we work a lot on communities!
The learning target for this unit are:
1) Understands the various roles of leadership in the community.
2) Understands Goods and Services
3) Understands the concept of saving money.

We start the unit out with Junior Achievement. A volunteer program where a member of our community comes in and teaches them a specific curriculum. Claudette Townsend has been my volunteer for years and comes from Dead River Company!!

Routines, Routines, Routines!

We have spent a lot of time getting ourselves ready for all the learning we will do this year by setting up routines. First we set up classroom rules:

Second we talked about how we wanted to be a community that C.A.R.E.S. We will continue to talk about this all year and hopefully you will hear about your child earning C.A.R.E.S. cards throughout the year!

Thirdly we introduced a part of literacy called Shared Reading. This week we started with the first 2 stages, noticing and questioning. We will continue to look at this piece next week!

And lastly we have been practicing our literacy centers. One of the main centers is reading to self. This week we talked about how we can read a book 3 ways and also how to pick out a just right book! Ask your kids about home what the 5 finger rule is!!

It has been a great first 3 weeks!! I look forward to the many more weeks we have together! Keep looking back for updates on the happenings in the classroom!!

Happy New School Year!!

Welcome back!! It is hard to believe we have only been back a week! We have been hard at work!

This is a place that throughout the year you can check and see what is happening in the classroom! It is also a place you can come and look at 2nd grade targets (ELTs), see our schedule, and find some resources!

I look forward to working with you all throughout the year!
